Born in Ecuador, Gladys Del Pilar's journey to becoming one of Sweden's most versatile performers is a testament to her extraordinary talent and determination where her musical journey began at the Municipal Music School.
Her professional career took off in the late 1980s as a backing vocalist for the group "Big Deal." This experience led to the formation of "Real Power," where she ventured into house and club music. The early 1990s marked her breakthrough, with the 1991 single "Trust" gaining radio success, followed by the hit "Made up my Mind" produced with renowned producer Denniz Pop. Her talent was recognized when she received the "Newcomer of the Year" award at the 1992 DJ Music Awards.
Throughout the 1990s, Gladys demonstrated her versatility as a performer. She starred in major musical productions including "ABBA The True Story" at Berns and "Fame" at China Theater. In 1994, she achieved national recognition with "Det vackraste jag vet" in Melodifestivalen, finishing second. The following year, she was part of the successful show "Hot'n Tot" at Berns alongside Blossom Tainton and others. Her 1996 debut album "Movin' On" showcased her powerful voice and musical range.
Her collaboration with CSR MUSIC in 2001 resulted in the soul-stirring track "Catch Me," which captures the essence of her dynamic vocal abilities and emotional depth. Beyond her solo work, Gladys has achieved significant success as a member of Afro-dite, winning Melodifestivalen 2002 with "Never Let It Go." Her career continues to evolve, encompassing everything from gospel choirs to musical theater, including a starring role as Deloris in "Sister Act" in 2019.
